First of all... Huawei Y9s costs PKR 43,000, and it's now available in the market. While OPPO and Vivo are still offering plastic build quality in this price range, Huawei gives you the glass build in the same price range. That's a plus point for sure.
Sides are 3D curved but the glass back doesn't reflect like a mirror. But some attractive reflections are good under certain lighting conditions. This dotted light effect only comes in midnight black variant. I only liked it because this effect is only visible under certain lighting conditions and not always. You will see this soft shade most of the time which feels like premium.
There is another variant named Breathing Crystal, which has a white base tone. This variant reflects with light blue and purple colors Frankly, I liked that variant more. But this all-time favorite black color has no comparison.
Huawei's build quality is apparent in this phone. The profile size is a bit large for a single hand. But if we look at the mid-range rivals, we'll mostly find this size. If you have already noticed, there is no fingerprint sensor on the back. Because it's embedded in the power button on the right side. And I never liked this placement of a fingerprint sensor.
But some people think, it's useful. Because they think, this way, more than two fingers can be registered easily. Another factor is when you pick the phone, the fingerprint sensor can be reached easily. From an aspect, this is true indeed. Performance-wise, this fingerprint sensor had no issues. This is equally fast as previously rear-mounted fingerprint sensors have been on Huawei devices.
The screen size is 6.6-inch. It's an IPS Display, and 1080p full HD+ resolution is fine for this price range. Comparatively, this phone offers a bit better brightness than most with IPS panels. There is no issue indoors, but outdoor visibility is also competitive. It doesn't acquire full brightness if not under direct sunlight. You will need to set to full brightness to use it under direct sunlight. I don't know why Huawei wouldn't use an anti-glare coating on its phones. Still, I'd prefer this IPS panel over the ones from other brands in this price range. Sure it's not anywhere close to AMOLED or Super AMOLED displays.
FullView Screen is properly used by some apps including YouTube and Netflix. Due to no front camera on the display, there is no notch or hole punch at all. I have already said that this Real FullView experience is a lot better since Vivo V15 and V15 Pro. It's still the same experience with this phone. All credits to this pop-up camera module, which has a 16-megapixel front camera and only opens when it's needed by an app.
Comparatively, it's a bit slower but not a big deal. However, the face unlocks feature is not available. There is a triple camera setup on the back, with a 48MP main camera. It provides a 12MP detailed image after pixel binning. You can use wide-angle and zoom features with this. A full 48MP resolution option is also available. But with that, you can't use zoom, AI Camera, Moving picture, and Burst mode.
But considering basic camera quality, I am impressed with its noise-handling. Take this shot for example. I was sure, if I lock the exposure on the bright lamp, the background will completely turn dark. But already dark green background was still visible. Maybe, Huawei is shifting is Super Night Mode algorithm into mid-range devices?
Considering the 2.6x zoom shot, the detail in this image is managed quite well. Thanks to pixel binning tech. I am actually impressed with this shot. Color reproduction is pretty accurate in low light conditions. The main camera performs well in daylight and color reproduction is also accurate. AI Mode enhances the vividness but not much strength.
48MP Main camera lens provides a 27mm equivalent focal length. While the secondary 8MP camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens offers 17mm eq. focal length. The ultra-wide camera produces rich colors but image detail is not present at all.
Huawei has always offered both, the Portrait mode and Aperture mode. The difference is that portrait mode blurs the background by automatically detecting the human face. While with aperture mode, you can capture any subject with blurred background. I think this phone has a big improvement.
Whether it's indoors or outdoors, Color accuracy is perfect and edge detection is also pretty much improved. Except for very complex objects. Portrait shots are just amazing. Impressive detail. Accurate skin tone. Nice background blur. Except for the 100% edge detection, everything else was impressive.
The front camera features beauty mode, background blur effects, and lighting effects. Image quality wasn't that impressive. But comparatively, it's head-to-head with other mid-range phones. color reproduction and skin tone are accurate here as well.
In video recording, the phone offers 1080p resolution at maximum with 60fps and 30fps. But the electronic stabilization is only available with 30fps. Quality-wise, 60fps is unusable because of unstable focus locking. But 30fps footage is impressive with stabilization. image detail is not that good but color reproduction is accurate in videos too.
Normally, 30fps is enough, but if Huawei fixes the 60fps issue soon, it will be better. I guess that's enough for a Camera.
Let's check the software and performance.
This phone comes with an improved version of Kirin 710. It's Kirin 710F Huawei Y9 Prime was also packed with this processor but that wasn't optimized enough. Considering that, this phone is perfectly optimized.
In my primary use, I didn't feel any lag. The experience was smooth and fluid. 6GB RAM seemed to be working like it should. And 128GB storage is itself a plus point. If we compare it with Kirin 710, then it's a big improvement.
This phone comes with EMUI 9.1 and all the Google Apps and Services. If you don't like Huawei's default skin, then you enable app drawer. I personally prefer the default skin of Huawei.
If you are thinking about gaming, then it can play titles like Modern Combat 5 and Asphalt 9. If you play moderately. PUBG Mobile of course works and plays on Balanced Graphics and Medium Frame Rate. So you don't need to worry about that.
What I liked the most about this phone, is its battery. 4,000 mAh battery capacity is common but the battery performance of this phone is unmatched. This phone mostly spent up to two days If used moderately, it could give one and a half days. With excessive gaming and camera usage, this phone should give you a day easily.
But the bad thing about it is the 10-watt charging. This phone doesn't support fast charging. Overall, the camera is good. But I liked more the build quality, performance, and battery. If I have to recommend it, I'll give it to its build quality. In this price range, OPPO and Vivo are also offering similar performance, but not the build quality. So it's easy to say. Go Get This One.
